Friday Five: Brunch

Brunch

Turns out, I’m one of those people who takes photos of food. Particularly when I eat out. And while I recognize that a lot of restaurant meals don’t really align with a runner’s diet, I want to share a few delicious brunch meals from the past couple of months. This week’s Friday Five: Brunch – truly, my favourite meal!

Bulgarian Brunch – Acacia Fillo Bar

Brunch

My Greek friend recommended that we give Acacia Fillo Bar (Denman Street, Vancouver) a try. Not a typical brunch, but absolutely delicious: a dish called banitza – a fillo pastry stuffed with leeks and cheese, and served with yoghurt.

Casino Brunch – Bumbleberry Flats

Brunch

After running the Laughlin Half Marathon in December, we popped to the neighbouring casino – the Pioneer – for brunch. At Bumbleberry Flats, I indulged in the Crab Cake Benedict. Served on buttermilk biscuits with a cajun Hollandaise – so much yum.

Vegetarian Delish – The Acorn

I’d always wanted to visit The Acorn (Main Street, Vancouver), and we finally made it for brunch. And it was SO worth it! The menu changes with the seasons, so I’m not 100% sure what is pictured. But I’m pretty sure it was the Skillet and the Beggar’s Banquet. We ended up bringing my dad for dinner just a week later!

Malaysian Tofu Scramble – Tangent Cafe

Brunch

On Boxing Day (December 26), we headed to Commercial Drive to sample the Tangent Cafe. It was closed for the holiday. We gave it another shot and we were not disappointed! Excellent coffee, and the unique spices of Malaysia. Turns out it was fully vegan – no eggs, just tofu – but I didn’t even mind. I’ll be back for more!

Family Brunch – White Spot

Brunch

I’m kind of embarrassed to admit it – but sometimes I just gotta have me some White Spot. This Vancouver-based chain has a location just 2 blocks from home. The food is consistent and deliciously simply. The Shrimp Florentine Benedict comes with ‘smashbrown’ potatoes, and it’s a good thing I went for a long run before this high calorie meal!
