Another running blog?

Share

I can hear the question being asked (by someone, somewhere): “Does the web really need another running blog?”

Thankfully, when I told some of my friends (runners & non-runners alike) that I was going to start a running blog, all I got was encouragement. Now, they may have just been humouring me, but I’ll take it!

Why a running blog?

Running is one of the few things I’ve ever done that I’ve really ‘stuck’ to. Just to put it in context:

1) My marriage: 2 1/2 years (OK, we’ve been together over 14 years, but that reality doesn’t support my argument, so let’s ignore that for now)

2) Playing the piano: 2 years (at best – and I never was very good)

3) My job: the longest single job I’ve had was 4 1/2 years (not that I have a jumpy work history or anything…)

4) Playing the clarinet: 5 school years (but after a year playing a regular clarinet, I switched to contrabass clarinet – and yes, I was the band president, but the clarinet has not met my lips in quite a few years)

5) Playing the guitar: about 6 months (I thought being able to play the guitar would be sexy – I never got quite that far…)

Running – 5 years and counting

There’s something about running that has staying power for me. Sure, I started off slow…very slow. With short distances and oaths that I would never run more than that…but that’s a story for another time.

So, why another running blog? Because beyond all reasonable expectations, I somehow became a runner. And I’m still doing it, with no intentions of letting up. I want to document that, writing about my story and experiences for friends and others who share my passion for this crazy, painful, exhilarating athletic endeavour.

That’s why.
