April Fool's Half Marathon

When I signed up for the April Fool’s Half Marathon, it was back in September – at the Super Earlybird rate, and I saved extra with a promo code and a BC Athletics membership. As such, the race only cost me $22! What a steal! The joke was on me, however, when in the midst of planning for our trip to Japan, and my participation in the Kumagaya Sakura Marathon – I forgot I had signed up!

Thankfully, Debra reminded me – and also helped coordinate transportation for me (thanks, Humphrey!) – so I was ready to run when we arrived on the Sunshine Coast for the April Fool’s Half Marathon.

The first April Fool’s joke arrived early – over Messenger – when Humphrey announced that he was picking me up for the ferry at 5am. 5am?! In the morning??

Wait? A ferry?

Kumagaya Sakura Marathon

Late in 2015, we booked a trip to Japan – and little did I know that I would be running my first ‘international’ race at the Kumagaya Sakura Marathon! It was, in fact, a half marathon – and we coordinated our travels to end up in the Tokyo area in time for the race. But I’m getting ahead of myself…

Let me tell about the Japan race experience – a bit about what’s the same as other half marathons I have run, and what is completely different. Introducing, the Kumagaya Sakura Marathon!

Hamilton Road2Hope Half Marathon

I’ve been very fortunate to combine travel with racing over the past couple of years. Last year, I ran the Ottawa Half Marathon (which also runs through Quebec), and combined the trip with a visit with my Dad. Way back in April of this year – very likely in order to take advantage of the earlybird discount – I signed up for my second ever race in Ontario. I was able to meet up not only with Dad, but also with extended family and some friends I hadn’t seen in many years! And that race was the Hamilton Road2Hope Half Marathon!

Run Laughlin

It’s just a month away…the second annual Laughlin/Bullhead Half Marathon (and 5K) aka Run Laughlin! Let me tell you why you should definitely run this year – and I’ll even provide a discount code for you!

Last year, I ran the inaugural Laughlin/Bullhead Half Marathon, which happened to fall on my birthday. It was an awesome birthday celebration, and a great vacation to boot!

If you’re still on the fence about signing up for this year’s race, let me try to convince you…

Spirit of the Shore

Just a week after my Washington Road Trip with Brie, where we ran the North County Wine Run, I had the Spirt of the Shore Half Marathon on my roster. As one does, I had signed up for this race months ago, and it kind of slipped my mind. And although I have a race calendar, October was on the ‘next page’ – so I didn’t notice that I had back-to-back halfs until they were pretty much happening.

However, this was my first half marathon on the North Shore (including both West Vancouver and North Vancouver) – and we had the amazing support of the West Van Run Crew – so the experience was fantastic. No regrets…except for one wee error in judgement…but more on that later!

Back in April, I registered for the North County Wine Run and agreed to travel down to Battle Ground, WA with fellow BibRavePro, Brie. This is the story of our Washington Road Trip!

If you want an ‘intro’ to the race, be sure to read my post on 5 Reasons to Run the North County Wine Run. I won’t review them point-by-point, but suffice it to say that the run lived up to expectations!
