Run like a Superhero! Run West Van Run!

With less than two months to go until race weekend, my Spidey senses are tingling. That’s right – the West Van Run Superhero edition is just around the corner! And if you haven’t signed up yet, it’s time for me to convince you to pull on your tights, whip out that cape, and get people asking: “Who is that masked runner?”

There are a few new things in store for West Van Run 2017, along with the usual awesomeness you expect from this event!

Superhero Theme

In case you hadn’t figured out, this year’s theme is SUPERHEROES! As you know, I’m not a costume sort of guy, but this might sway me to dress up again!

Two Days – Two Distances

For you overachievers (or gluttons for punishment like me), you can run in both West Van Run races. The 5k is held on Saturday morning, and the 10k on Sunday – both starting at 8:30am. Even better – sign up for both races and get 20% off!

Crew Challenge

Not new, but something we’ve dialled things up this year. Each crew will earn points in different categories, including 1) total number of runners, 2) funds raised on behalf of North Shore Special Olympics, and 3) overall speed! Free Beer

Wait, did someone mention beer? That’s right – every age-appropriate runner (5k and 10k) will be receive a free ticket, redeemable at Park Royal’s Village Taphouse. Don’t want to wait until after noon for beer? The Taphouse is opening at 9:30am on race weekend to welcome runners for brunch!

New Start Line

The West Vancouver Community Centre will act as the 2017 start line and bag check location. If you’ve run this race before, only the first 400 metres will be different – a little run along Marine Drive before looping back along Bellevue Avenue.
